Portrait 2

Portrait 2

This is another coloured pencil portrait that took about four hours to complete.  This is a portrait of the lead singer of Panic! At The Disco, Brenden Urie.  I don't like to do backgrounds for pictures so I got done as much as I had wanted to.  The photograph that I was looking at for reference had him wearing a slightly different shirt that I didn't think would look good in this sketch so I found a different picture to look at for the shirt.  Portraits are always my most rigorous projects because they are so time-consuming and have so much detail involved.

Doodle For Google

Doodle For Google

This piece took me about 45 minutes to complete with coloured pencils and a pen outline.  Google was asking for what you think the future will look like, since their examples were flying cars and robot future, I assumed that they wanted very distant future.  I don't have the most optimistic view for that far into the future so my doodle for Google is more of a dystopian future.  The "G" is a burned, ripped, dirty kids stuffed rabbit toy.  The first "o" is a bloodied bandage over an arm or a leg.  The second "o" is a burning fire.  The "g" is an old fashion WWII style gas mask.  The "l" is a destroyed burning building.  The "e" is supposed to look like a stamp or graffiti.  The theme would be dystopian future or post-apocalyptic.  I wanted to do a bit more detailing on the smoggy sky and dark ground but I didn't want to mix it too much with the letters themselves so I changed that and just did a dark colour mix with more of a grey and red at the top and some greens for the ground.  As much as I like the dystopian future idea, I don't draw it very much.  I liked learning to do the more rugged edges of things and torn/used style.

Portrait

This piece took me about four hours with coloured pencils.  It is a portrait of a youtuber, Nathan Sharp.  I was trying to get this piece to look as realistic as possible, the main challenge was doing his hair. I finished what I wanted, I don't like adding backgrounds to portraits.  I started to do a different picture of him, but I had a hard time with parts of it, so I changed my idea a bit and used a different picture for reference.  I think it was very successful.  This is one of my better portrait pieces, I think.  I've always had a hard time with ears, since he has gauges it added another layer of difficulty but I think I managed to do it pretty well. Portraits are always very rigorous because it takes a really long time to get the shading just right, but if you over shade it looks too fake.
