I used black out lining pens and sharpies to do this piece.  I did a combination of round flowery lines and straight blocky shapes to do this piece. This took me a little over an hour to do because it was hard to overlap things correctly without using a pencil first.   This was just a random, floral piece.  It fits the assignment because it's just random shapes and lines that meld together, it doesn't really make anything.  I filled most of the page which is what I wanted to do so I'd say I completed what I wanted to do.  My idea didn't change too much.  After a little while, I realised that I was using the same shapes over and over again and had to look for more pattern ideas.  I think this was really successful.  I like to do black and white pen things and the lines in this look really clean and straight.  It looks good.  It wasn't too terribly rigorous because I didn't do much more than draw lines.  The most rigorous part was just finding a variety of ideas and layering things well.

I did this piece with coloured pencils.  I originally filled most of the page with a rubber band ball.  To make it look huge I added a small desk with a chair and a ceiling light.  I finished it by adding a little bit of shading for shadows. I wanted the sketch to be pretty simple.  I didn't want to add a whole room or any other objects. The rubber band ball is my still life piece, the chair and the light are there to make the rubber band ball look huge.  I had originally only wanted to do the rubber band ball but I added the other objects to fill the requirement.  It actually looks pretty cool so I think the project was a success, I usually draw cartoons or realistic portraits so drawing still life was kind of a challenge.  I had to redo it a couple times to get shadows and angles right.  It was relatively rigorous because the rubber bands are hard to follow so there was a lot of going back and fixing lines that I didn't realise connected.

I did this piece using alcohol based markers. I drew a simple human skull with multiple butterflies on or around it.  It took me around two hours to finish this project. I was trying to make this project dark with a slight 'beauty' element, hence the butterflies.  This is a repetition piece because there are multiple butterflies and they are all the same type of butterfly.  I pretty much finished what I had planned to do.  It would have been nice to have a few other butterflies, but I also think that would make the sketch too crowded.  I knew I wanted to do the skull but I wasn't sure what I wanted to put around it. After scrolling through Pinterest I saw some cool pictures of skulls with butterflies that I liked and decided to go with that.  I think the project was pretty successful.  The markers I was using were pretty new so I learned a lot about how to use them.  They are pretty different than Copic markers, which I have used before.  The project was pretty rigorous because I had to test the markers before I used them each time to check how they would blend together and how the colour transferred to the special marker paper I was using.

I did this playing card digitally using Inkscape.  The card I was assigned was the Jack of Hearts.  After much debate over how to complete this card I realized that my favouriteYoutubers' name is Jack, and he is known for playing a game where hearts paly a large role.  It would fit the assignment perfectly.  I did a cartoon version of him surrounded by the coloured hearts from the game.  This card took around three hours to complete.  I had hoped to get a bit more shading done but I was having some trouble with the computer program and didn't manage to get that done.  I just layered the colours a bit more to compensate for the lack of actual shading, this was the only big change to my idea. I think this card was very successful.  I was really happy with how it turned out.  When I use Inkscape I will usually sketch out my first ideas on the program itself, this time I sketched it out on paper first and then scanned that into the computer.  This really helped a lot and I learned how to layer my lines better to get smoother edges.  This project was pretty rigorous because Inkscape is a rather difficult program to work with.  I had to redo a lot of my work in order to get it exactly how I wanted. 

Update after 3+ years

Hello, this has been the blog I have used for my all my art classes in high school.  Everything posted above this post is from my senior year, which is an AP Studio Art class.  Everything posted below is from either freshman year or sophomore year when I took a photography class.  I don't want to delete the old stuff when I use this for a new class because it's cool to see my old photos or old pictures of my friends.
